Frank Pishkur Pottery Exhibit

Since 2005, Frank Pishkur has served as Assistant Professor of Art at Missouri Southern State University, where he has entirely rebuilt the ceramic and sculpture program.  His artwork has won numerous awards and been featured in over 75 shows throughout the United States and in Korea.

As an artist, Pishkur works primarily with clay on a potter's wheel.  The exhibit features his Asian-inspired stoneware clay vessels, which are predominately colored with celadon green glazes.  The naturally dark clay is covered with a white slip (liquid clay) and then carved through the slip to reveal the darker clay underneath.  This creates color and value variations when the celadon glazes are applied.  By using these techniques, Pishkur assimilates Korean imagery and traditions.
