House of Lords Program

On April 23, 2010, the Post Library was transformed into the infamous House of Lords saloon and gambling hall.  Library staff dressed as bar maids and dealers.  Post Library director Leslie Simpson, dressed as Prohibition activist Carrie Nation, gave a historical program about the House of Lords.  The establishment operated at 317 Main from about 1890 until Prohibition closed it down around 1920.

The facade surrounding the entrance to the Post Library was installed in March 2010.

Artist Dianne Cantrell built and painted the facade to recreate the look of the Posts' home

at 2630 E. 15th.  To see more of Cantrell's amazing creations, click here.
