Handbags by Ruth Atchley
The Post Library
is pleased to feature handbags made by Ruth Atchley. The artist, an
art teacher at McAuley Regional High School in Joplin, earned her art
degree from Pittsburg State University. In describing her art she
states, "Art is .... about elements. Line, color, shape, pattern and
texture excite and inspire me as an artist. I combine the 'elements'
in whimsical and playful ways when I create jewelry, batiks, and
handbags."
These colorful,
textural handbags combine several techniques--weaving, embroidery,
appliqué, quilting--with an assortment of materials and embellishments.
Each bag is a unique work of art which, at the same time, is fully
functional.
